The Ghana Institute of Management and Public Administration (GIMPA) has celebrated the departure of Ms. Sarah Boafo, an MPhil Public Health student, who has been awarded the prestigious Queen Elizabeth II Diamond Jubilee Scholarship (QES) to undertake a three-month research residency at the University of York, Canada.
As part of the scholarship programme, Sarah will contribute to the Climate Change and Displacement Initiative, providing her with a unique opportunity to engage in internationally recognised research while representing GIMPA and Ghana on the global stage.
Ahead of her departure, Sarah paid a courtesy call on the Deputy Rector, Professor Ebenezer Adaku, accompanied by the Head of the Office of International Programmes and Development (OIPD), Professor Gifty Oforiwaa Gyamera, and the Deputy Registrar of the OIPD, Mrs. Esther Ayine.
Congratulating Sarah on her achievement, Professor Adaku described the scholarship as a testament to her dedication and academic excellence. He encouraged her to serve as an outstanding ambassador for GIMPA by upholding the University’s values and pursuing excellence throughout her stay in Canada.
Professor Gyamera commended Sarah’s determination and perseverance, noting that her success serves as an inspiration to fellow students and creates pathways for future GIMPA scholars. She encouraged Sarah to take full advantage of the opportunity by expanding her professional network, embracing new learning experiences, and showcasing Ghana’s rich cultural heritage while representing the University abroad.
Mrs. Ayine also extended her congratulations and best wishes, encouraging Sarah to remain focused and make the most of the programme. She expressed confidence in Sarah’s ability to excel and wished her a safe and successful return upon completion of the scholarship.
Expressing her gratitude, Sarah thanked GIMPA’s Senior Management, the Office of International Programmes and Development, and Mrs. Ayine for their unwavering support throughout the application and preparation process. She also paid special tribute to Professor Stephen Odonkor,
Head of the Department of Development Policy, whose mentorship, guidance, and encouragement played a pivotal role in helping her secure the highly competitive scholarship.
Demonstrating GIMPA’s commitment to student support and international engagement, Mr. Effah of the Office of International Programmes and Development accompanied Sarah to the airport and assisted with her travel arrangements to ensure a smooth departure.
Sarah’s achievement underscores GIMPA’s dedication to academic excellence, internationalisation, and the creation of transformative global learning opportunities for its students.
