About the Department
The GIMPA Business School used to operate as a single large school. As the School grew in programme offerings and student numbers, coordinating areas were created to ensure effective and efficient operation. These included Management Science, Business Management; and Accounting and Finance coordinating areas. Further growth engendered full departmentalisation. The Department of Management Science was, thus, established in 2021.
The Department is a leader in education and research in the areas of Project Management and Supply Chain Management. With customer satisfaction as a critical focus of businesses, we ensure our students have a good appreciation of the entire value chain of businesses with particular focus on the key aspects of organisations and operations that deliver value to customers.
A project is one of the ways of doing things and has recently become a modus operandi for realising organisational goals. The Department, thus, seeks to improve the performances of firms by training and equipping our students with the state-of-the-art skills, knowledge and experience in Project Management. We do this by employing effective pedagogical approaches such as case studies, simulations, role plays and experiential learning.
On the research front, we utilise diverse research methods encompassing theoretical models and empirical analysis of field data. By way of research, our department’s faculty are exploring and expanding the frontiers of knowledge in Project and Supply Chain Management disciplines.

Academic Programmes
Undergraduate (Day & Evening)
BSc (Hons) Procurement, Logistics and Supply Chain Management
With Ghana’s agenda to industrialise, these four-year programmes seek to develop critical human resource to support the industrialisation agenda. This programme, essentially, provides and equips participants with the skills to plan, source, transform and control the efficient and effective forward and reverse flow and storage of goods, services, and related information between the point of origin and the point of consumption in order to satisfy or create value for consumers.

BSc (Hons) Project Management
Projects are currently used as the modus operandi in realising organisational goals in both public and private sectors. Hence, this four-year programme seeks to prepare graduates to effectively select, plan, control and manage all kinds of projects (big and small) in any work environment.

Postgraduate Programmes
Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) in Business Administration
The GIMPA PhD programme is designed to enrich students’ research skills toward facilitating their ability to conduct rigorous academic research with implications for Ghana’s development. The PhD programme model focuses on three basic areas:
- Rigorous training in general research methods as well as those specific to a discipline. This ensures the ability to conduct research at an advanced level. Such training is typically covered in two semesters of coursework and throughout the programme in substantive seminars and workshops.
- Substantive coursework in a subject area discipline beyond the master’s degree level. This is designed to ensure theoretical, applied, and empirical knowledge of the subject matter of the discipline. Such coursework is typically covered in three to four semester.
- A supervised written thesis that typically takes up to three years to complete.

Doctor of Management (DMGT)
The programme is designed for professional and senior executives with extensive managerial experience who are looking to acquire knowledge that will enable them to transform business practices and impart knowledge. It aims at developing scholar-practitioners with superior research and analytical skills that can be applied to critical issues in the world of business and management. The emphasis is on applied theory and research. Thus, the research approach emphasizes topics that reflect the intersection of theory and contemporary business issues and the role of top management.

Master Of Supply Chain Management (MSCM)
The Master of Supply Chain Management (MSCM) programme is to provide participants with skills and understanding of the design, development, organization, and management of a company’s supply chain system. It focuses on the challenges of integrating internal and external elements of the supply chain in a seamless manner. Particular attention is paid to understanding the systems required to develop and manage efficient supply chains. It includes concepts, theories and principles that equip participants to be proficient in supply chain management in the workplace.

Master Of Project Management (MPM)
The programme is designed to equip participants with the necessary specialized skills to specifically manage projects right from the conceptual, planning, implementation and post implementation stages. Going through the GIMPA Master of Project Management prepares participants, to take leading roles in undertaking specific projects right from the inception to completion. Participants after going through the programme should be capable of carrying out appraisals on projects, providing clear directions in managing projects, marshal resources for projects, manage projects stakeholders and risks effectively for successful delivery of projects.

Executive Master Of Business Administration (EMBA)(Modular)
The GIMPA EMBA is a professional degree that is specially designed to equip graduates with the knowledge, attitude and skills required by chief executives and other top-level managers to meet effectively the leadership and managerial challenges they face in their organizations. As such, the programme adopts a generalist perspective that is relevant to those at senior management ranks and does not provide for specialization in any functional area of business.

Master of Research in Business Administration (MRES)
The Master of Research in Business Administration (MRes) is a research-based degree that prepares graduates for academic careers in various functional areas of business at tertiary institutions and in the research departments of organizations. The programme emphasizes the development of skills in understanding theory, the research process and methodology. Graduates of the program are expected to make contributions to the advancement of knowledge of business practices through research, teaching and consulting. It is also designed for those interested in acquiring a doctoral degree in the future.

What is the duration of your degree programmes?
Undergraduate programmes are usually 4 years. Masters programmes are for 1 or 2 years, depending on the programme. Post Graduate Diploma programmes are usually a year. However, you are encouraged to confirm with your prospective secretariat as some programmes may have a unique timeline.
