Since 2016, GIMPA Law School has worked closely with students to introduce, nurture, and sustain a moot court culture at the school. The process of selecting students to join moot teams has been fairly competitive, and students have embraced the idea that moot court activities enhance their learning experience. However, it quickly became clear that joining a moot team requires long hours of research, good legal writing skills, and several rehearsals. This reality meant that only the brightest students could afford to do the work required to make it onto a moot team. While the students understood this and showed their commitment, the faculty eventually took steps to acknowledge the effort that goes into preparing memorials and rehearsing for oral arguments.

In 2017, the faculty implemented a policy allowing any final-year student who is part of a moot team to submit a memorial they worked on in place of their final-year dissertation. This policy has proven useful as an incentive for motivating moot court participants in their second and third years to continue competing even in their final year at the faculty.

In February 2024, the GIMPA Law School successfully launched the Gertrude Sackey Torkornoo Moot Court Competition under the distinguished auspices of Her Ladyship, the Chief Justice, Justice Gertrude Sackey Torkornoo. The Gertrude S. Torkornoo Moot Court Competition is a national contest that will bring together participants from various law faculties across Ghana. This event serves as a platform for law students to refine their advocacy and litigation skills and prepare them for their future legal careers. The competition is expected to be highly competitive, and the personal involvement of the Chief Justice adds a unique and significant dimension to the event.
