Mr Clement Kojo Akapame

Clement Kojo Akapame is a qualified legal practitioner and Senior Lecturer at the Ghana Institute of Management and Public Administration. Clement has strong legal research and analytical skills and over Twelve (12) years’ experience in corporate commercial practice and public institutional and regulatory reforms. His main recent interests are in the areas of Commercial Law and Natural Resources Law specifically in Forestry legislation. He is the co-author of the first Ghanaian legal text on commercial in Ghana – titled Commercial Law in Ghana: Sourcebook with foreword written by Prof. Justice Samuel Kofi Date-Bah former justice of the Supreme Court of Ghana.

Clement Akapame also provides support to the Management and GIMPA Governing Council as Ag. Legal Counsel of the Institute where his main tasks include specific legal advice on compliance, drafting and legal due diligence. Outside GIMPA, Clement is the Partner in charge of Commercial Practice TaylorCrabbe Barristers and Solicitors and Head of Legal Consultancy Service at TaylorCrabbe Innitiative®.   Clement has worked with various stakeholders including international organizations such as the DFID, USAID and UNDP in direct engagement and on a consultancy basis by offering research, technical backstopping and chaperoning assistance in institutional and legislative reforms in the areas of natural resources and constitutional law. He presently works on a long-term consultancy with a group of international Environmental Lawyers. His role involves building capacity of the Civil Society Organizations on legal issues in the forestry sector, particularly in the implementation of the Forest Law Enforcement Governance and Trade (FLEGT) programme of the European Union.

Clément’s current interests are in carbon rights and tenurial arrangements surrounding the legislative design, commercial trade and benefit-sharing arrangements. Clement previously worked with Law and Development Associates, as the Lead Researcher and Counsel to the Constitution Review Commission of Ghana where he served as in-house counsel to the Commission.
