Experts from ESSEC Business School, Paris to Restructure and Develop New Curriculum for GIMPA’s Hospitality and Tourism Management Programme

Two experts from the ESSEC Business School, Paris are in GIMPA to help restructure and develop a new curriculum for the Bachelor of Science in Hospitality and Tourism Management programme, that is currently being run by the School of Technology and Social Sciences (SOTSS). The experts, who will be here for a week, are Ms. Johanna Wagner, Corporate Executive Associate, Head of Sustainability Concentration, ESSEC. She is also a consultant. The other person is Mr. Mark Saint-Julien, a leadership expert and Academic Director at ESSEC Executive Education. ‘We have engaged these experts to help us develop a curriculum that is viable and meets current market trends,’ said Prof. Samuel Kwaku Bonsu, the Rector of GIMPA. He further stated that GIMPA was also seeking to build a partnership with ESSEC that would yield mutual benefits for GIMPA, ESSEC and the students. ‘We want to be the best in everything that we do as a Centre of excellence and this is one area that we want to shine and shine best,’ Prof. Bonsu added.

The team has so far met and interacted with the Faculty, staff, students and some alumni of the Hospitality and Tourism Management Department at a workshop that sought to share experiences and best practices. They have again interacted with the staff at the GIMPA Executive Conference Centre (GECC) to discuss arrangements for practical sessions. They have also met and interacted with industry and other stakeholders in the Hospitality and Tourism Management Industry. The experts later met with the Deans of Schools and the Directors of the various Departments in the Institute to train them on leadership as well.

Ms. Wagner and Mr. Saint-Julien, said they were excited to be part of GIMPA and were optimistic that by the end of the process, a rock-solid curriculum that is suitable for the country and even beyond would be designed for the Department.
