The Ghana Institute of Management and Public Administration (GIMPA) commemorated Father’s Day 2026 with an engaging and insightful programme themed “Men & Sex in the Men’s Cycle” at Mamphey Hall. The event created a platform for meaningful conversations on masculinity, sexual health, emotional well-being and the evolving role of men in contemporary society.
Delivering the keynote presentation, Counselling Psychologist, Mrs. Perfect Elorm Kumah Oduro, examined key issues surrounding masculinity, relationships, marriage and sexual health. She highlighted the biological and social dimensions of sexuality, noting that while sex serves purposes of recreation and intimacy, maintaining a healthy lifestyle through proper nutrition and regular exercise remains essential for overall well-being.
Mrs. Kumah Oduro emphasized that sexual activity is not a prerequisite for a fulfilling life, encouraging individuals to channel their energies into productive hobbies, personal development and community engagement. She further noted that many people intentionally abstain from sexual activity due to personal values, beliefs or religious convictions, and that such choices deserve respect. Speaking on marriage, she observed that one of its most fulfilling stages is characterized by deep friendship, companionship and mutual support between partners.
Medical Officer at the GIMPA Clinic, Dr. Daniel Nortey, challenged participants to broaden their understanding of manhood beyond sexuality and financial responsibility. He stressed the importance of emotional growth, purpose and healthy relationships, noting that while life experiences and trauma can shape an individual’s journey, they should not define one’s identity.
Dr. Nortey encouraged men to cultivate self-awareness and reflect on their purpose beyond societal expectations. He urged participants to embrace the success of others and maintain their humanity in the pursuit of personal and professional achievements.
The programme formed part of GIMPA’s commitment to promoting holistic well-being and fostering conversations that support personal growth, leadership development and healthy living within the University community.
