Government officials, including Hon. Minister Moeketsi Mots’oane, the Minister of Public Service and Hon. Mokhothu Makhalanyane, the Chief of Chiefs at Cabinet, have undergone a one-week capacity-building programme in GIMPA as part of efforts to strengthen public sector transformation and institutional capacity.
The training, designed as a Training of Trainers (ToT) programme, equipped selected officials with the knowledge and skills needed to train other public sector personnel and support the implementation of institutional reforms..
The programme is expected to be followed by the training of an additional 150 officials from various government institutions in Lesotho in September. This broader training will extend the knowledge gained during the initial programme to more public sector officials and support the development of stronger institutional capacity across government.
The initiative reflects a focus on building sustainable capacity within Lesotho’s public sector by equipping government officials to lead and facilitate further training within their respective institutions.
The programme also provided an opportunity for participants to engage in knowledge exchange and learn from GIMPA’s approach to leadership development, adult learning and professional training. The engagement forms part of broader efforts to strengthen LIPAM’s programmes and enhance its ability to respond to the evolving needs of the public service.
At a dinner held to mark the conclusion of the engagement, speakers from both institutions reaffirmed the importance of continued collaboration, knowledge sharing and institutional partnerships in strengthening public-sector delivery. The discussions also highlighted the need for public institutions to continuously develop the skills and leadership capacity required to better serve citizens.
The collaboration forms part of World Bank-supported initiatives focused on the assessment and redesign of the programmes of the Lesotho Institute of Public Administration and Management (LIPAM), as well as leadership development for senior government officials in Lesotho.
