Welcome to the Department of Economics and Hospitality Studies at the Ghana Institute of Management and Public Administration (GIMPA). Indeed, the issues of the globalised world are fast changing and that requires quick adaptation and innovative approach to the contemporary world. We have excellent and experienced faculty that are motivated to give students a transformative education they can use in a world that is always changing. In addition to offering various graduate programmes in economics, the Department is responsible for the BSc Hospitality and Tourism Management programme at GIMPA.
As our graduate Economics student, you begin by building core skills with microeconomics, macroeconomics, and Quantitative Methods. We then open up electives, for the various pathways in Economic Policy, Energy Economics, and Financial Economics.
Our hospitality students learn the practice and business of hospitality, and how to apply that knowledge in a global economy.

The undergraduate BSc in Hospitality and Tourism Studies program provides students with a broad foundation in hospitality management, event planning, tourism trends, and entrepreneurship. ONE YEAR MASTER PROGRAMMES (Evening and Weekends)
Master of Science in Economic Policy
The one-year MSc in Economic Policy program is tailored for students aspiring to become policymakers, economists, or analysts in government organizations, international agencies, or research institutions. This program provides students with a deep understanding of economic theories, policy formulation, and analysis, empowering graduates to contribute to evidence-based decision-making in various sectors.
Programme Highlights:
Public Policy; Public Finance; Policy Training Workshops, International Economics, Microeconomic Theory and Policy, and Macroeconomic Theory and Policy, among others.
Admission requirements:
- An applicant to the Master of Science in Economic Policy programme is required to have earned a bachelor’s degree or the equivalent as follows:
- A Bachelor's degree (or the equivalent) with a minimum of 2nd Class Lower Division from a recognized university.
- Applicants with a third class in economics, mathematics, statistics, business and engineering and with a minimum of three years relevant work experience, may be accepted subject to passing an entrance examination and interview.
Duration: One (1) Year

Master of Science in Financial Economics
The one-year MSc in Financial Economics programme provides students with a comprehensive understanding of financial markets, instruments, and economic principles. It also equips students with the requisite knowledge to support efforts at improving markets by improving the financial sector, developing new commodity markets and exchanges, and deploying other knowledge on market performance-improving mechanisms to promote the global economy.
Graduates of this programme are well-prepared for careers in banking, investment, financial analysis, and risk management.
Programme Highlights: Investment Theory and Practice, Asset Pricing Theory and Management, Ethics and Financial Regulations, Economics of Financial Markets, Microeconomic Theory and Policy, Macroeconomic Theory and Policy, and Econometrics among others.

An applicant to the Master of Project Management programme is required to have earned a bachelor’s degree or the equivalent as follows:
- A Bachelor's degree (or the equivalent) with a minimum of 2nd Class Lower Division from a recognized university.
- Applicants with a third class in economics, mathematics, statistics, business and engineering and with a minimum of three years relevant work experience, may be accepted subject to passing an entrance examination and interview.

Master of Philosophy in Economics
The two-year MPhil in Economics program offers students a deeper dive into economic theory, research methodologies, and advanced analytical tools. This program is tailored to individuals aspiring to pursue academic careers or research-intensive roles in both the public and private sectors. It also provides a strong foundation in economics and research skills to proceed to PhD programmes.
Programme Highlights: Microeconomic Theory, Macroeconomic Theory, Quantitative Method for Economics, Econometrics, and Research Methods in Economics, among others. Admission requirements:- A Bachelor's degree (or the equivalent) with a minimum of 2nd Class Lower Division from a recognized university

What is the duration of your degree programmes?
Undergraduate programmes are usually 4 years. Masters programmes are for 1 or 2 years, depending on the programme. Post Graduate Diploma programmes are usually a year. However, you are encouraged to confirm with your prospective secretariat as some programmes may have a unique timeline.
